While Samsung’s Project Moohan leads the charge as the first Android XR headset, a second contender is already lined up. At Google I/O 2025, XREAL announced its upcoming Project Aura headset, marking its entry into the Android XR ecosystem.

Project Aura will be an optical see-through device, continuing XREAL’s focus on lightweight XR hardware. Though specs remain under wraps, it’s confirmed to run on a Snapdragon XR chipset, with Qualcomm collaborating alongside Google to power the next generation of XR experiences.

XREAL highlights its history with consumer-friendly XR wearables and aims to deliver compact, spatial computing hardware for Android XR’s new platform. The company promises to showcase Project Aura in detail at the Augmented World Expo in Long Beach, California, from June 10-12. While no official release date has been announced, further updates are expected later this year following the June reveal.
