Xiaomi has officially confirmed it’s launching its first self-developed smartphone chipset, marking a bold step away from relying solely on Qualcomm and MediaTek. Announced by CEO Lei Jun on Weibo, the chip is named Xuanjie O1 in China and Xring O1 internationally. It’s scheduled for a full reveal in late May, just a couple of weeks from now.

While official specifications remain under wraps, reliable leakers claim the chip will use a 5nm process and feature a 1+3+4 CPU configuration. Expected specs include a single Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-A725 cores, and four Cortex-A520 cores, with clock speeds up to 3.2GHz. The GPU is reportedly from Imagination Technologies, paired with a 5G modem by Unisoc.

If these rumors hold, Xiaomi’s chip could rival Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, signaling serious ambition in the high-end chipset market. The official announcement later this month should shed light on Xiaomi’s next big leap in hardware independence.
