Xiaomi EV is gearing up to officially unveil its first electric SUV, the Xiaomi YU7, on May 22 at 7 PM Beijing time. Positioned to challenge the Tesla Model Y, the YU7 marks Xiaomi’s second major EV launch following the successful debut of the SU7 sedan last year, which later expanded with a high-performance SU7 Ultra variant.

The YU7 is set to outsize its Tesla rival, measuring 4,999 mm in length with a 3,000 mm wheelbase, promising more cabin space and a bold design. However, the road hasn’t been entirely smooth for Xiaomi EV, with recent scrutiny over an SU7 crash and reports of quality issues. These incidents have slightly dented sales momentum, with insurance registrations slipping for three straight weeks.

The May 22 event won’t just spotlight the YU7. Xiaomi plans a multi-product showcase featuring its first in-house Xring O1 SoC, the Xiaomi 15S Pro smartphone, and the 7 Ultra tablet, further expanding its connected tech ecosystem.
