WhatsApp is developing a new feature to allow users in India to pay bills directly through the app, eliminating the need for third-party services. An APK teardown of WhatsApp’s latest Android beta revealed categories like electricity, prepaid mobile recharges, LPG gas, water bills, landline postpaid bills, and rent payments.

This builds on WhatsApp’s existing UPI-based payments, which already support peer-to-peer transfers and business payments. With India’s National Payments Corporation recently lifting the cap on WhatsApp Pay’s user onboarding, this new feature could accelerate its adoption. While there’s no official launch date, it is expected to roll out in the coming months.
