WhatsApp is testing a long-awaited Logout option in its latest Android beta, giving users more control over how they manage their sessions. Discovered in the Account settings menu, this feature will offer two distinct choices when it rolls out: log out while erasing all your data and preferences or log out while preserving them for an easy return.

If you choose to erase data, the experience mirrors uninstalling the app it removes your local chats and settings but keeps you in your groups. The second option allows you to temporarily disconnect without losing any personal data, chats, or group memberships, making it ideal for short digital detoxes or switching between devices without hassle.

At the moment, the feature is marked with an “Internal” badge, signaling that it’s still undergoing internal testing. The next step will be a wider beta rollout, followed by a public release for Android and likely iOS users in the coming months.
