As the world eagerly watches the evolution of self-driving technology, Waymo has shared promising news about the safety of its robotaxis. A new study conducted in collaboration with reinsurance company Swiss Re reveals that Waymo’s autonomous vehicles are significantly safer than human-driven cars. The study, analyzing millions of miles of driving data, shows an 88% reduction in property damage claims and a 92% reduction in injury claims compared to human drivers.

The results are even more impressive when compared to vehicles with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), where Waymo’s robotaxis saw an 86% drop in property damage and a 90% reduction in injury claims. While this data is compelling, some skeptics point out that the study’s comparison may not be entirely fair due to differing conditions in the areas where Waymo operates. Still, this study is a significant step in proving the safety potential of autonomous vehicles.
