TikTok Back Online in the U.S. After Brief Ban Amid Trump’s Proposed Joint Venture

TikTok services were restored in the U.S. after a brief ban due to legislation requiring ByteDance to divest the app by January 19. President-elect Donald Trump proposed a solution to let the U.S. government own 50% of TikTok through a joint venture.

Trump cited TikTok’s significant user base of 170 million Americans and its role in job creation as reasons for his decision. He plans to issue an executive order delaying the law’s enforcement.

TikTok thanked Trump for providing clarity and assurance, allowing operations to resume without penalties. However, questions remain about reconciling this move with the legislation signed by President Biden.
