Telegram CEO Pavel Durov recently made headlines following his arrest and release in France, where he faces allegations of facilitating organized crime through Telegram. While the case remains under scrutiny, Durov responded by reaffirming his stance on digital privacy, claiming that Telegram has never disclosed a single byte of private messages to any government.

Durov also praised the French National Assembly’s decision to reject a proposed bill that would have compromised end-to-end encryption under the guise of combating drug trafficking. He argued that even countries with limited civil liberties have avoided such backdoors due to their global security risks. According to him, building access for law enforcement is a technical impossibility without exposing everyone to potential cyberattacks.

In his statement, Durov warned that enabling such surveillance tools would not only erode citizens’ rights but also create a dangerous precedent. Despite legal pressures, Telegram remains committed to protecting user privacy, Durov insists underscoring encryption as a non-negotiable cornerstone of secure communication.
