Nothing Headphone (1) Leaks Reveal Retro-Inspired Transparent Design

Nothing is returning to its roots with the Headphone (1), its first over-the-ear wireless headphones, set to launch alongside the Phone (3) on July 1. Thanks to a series of live images, we now have our first clear look at what Carl Pei’s brand has been quietly developing.

The Headphone (1) unmistakably carries Nothing’s design DNA. Transparent ear cup elements, minimalist branding, and a retro-futuristic vibe make these stand out in a sea of cookie-cutter headsets. The ear cups sport a two-part design, with a metal base and a plastic top styled to resemble a cassette tape — an unexpectedly cool nod to analog audio nostalgia.

Interestingly, despite being wireless, a 3.5mm audio jack is also present, offering versatility for audiophiles. Three physical buttons adorn the headphones — two on the side and one on the ear cup’s exterior — likely for playback, volume, and voice assistant controls. Notably, there’s no sign of folding hinges on the headband, suggesting a fixed frame for structural durability.

Nothing has partnered with British audio brand KEF to co-develop the audio experience, hinting at premium sound tuning to match the eye-catching aesthetics. Early rumors peg the price at $309/€299/£299, placing them firmly in mid-premium territory alongside the likes of Sony’s WH-1000XM5 and the AirPods Max.

We’ll know for sure when these hit the stage on July 1, but based on these images, Nothing is doubling down on transparent design language and retro-influenced hardware at a time when most brands play it safe.
