Nintendo Switch 2 Patent Reveals AI-Based Upscaling for Handheld Mode

Nintendo has officially filed a patent confirming that the upcoming Switch 2 will feature AI-powered upscaling in handheld mode. The new technology will allow the console to enhance images from a native 540p resolution to 1080p while maintaining higher frame rates. This upgrade aims to improve performance and visual quality without putting extra strain on hardware, making handheld gaming smoother and more immersive.

The AI upscaling method functions similarly to Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR, using neural networks to reconstruct and refine lower-resolution images. However, the patent does not clarify whether the same technology will be implemented in Docked Mode. It also remains uncertain how upscaling might affect battery life or which games will support the feature.

Nintendo is set to reveal more details about the Switch 2, including pricing, features, and a possible release timeline, during its highly anticipated April 2 Nintendo Direct broadcast. Fans eagerly await how this new system will compare to competitors.
