The upcoming MacBook Air will adopt an oxide TFT LCD panel, the same display tech used in MacBook Pro models, according to The Elec. This marks a step up from the current amorphous silicon TFT panels, offering smoother visuals and better performance.
While initial rumors suggested OLED displays for the MacBook Air by 2027, Apple has reportedly postponed these plans due to high production costs and tepid demand for OLED-equipped devices like the iPad Pro. OLED MacBook Airs are now expected around 2029.
The oxide TFT LCD serves as a cost-effective upgrade, bridging the gap until OLED becomes more viable for the MacBook Air lineup.
