Samsung’s S Pen has long been a defining feature of its Galaxy S Ultra lineup, but recent changes suggest its future may be uncertain. The Galaxy S25 Ultra saw the removal of Bluetooth and gyroscope features from the S Pen, which had been standard since 2018. Samsung justified this by citing a survey showing only 1% of Galaxy users utilized these features. However, given Samsung’s massive user base, this still represents hundreds of thousands of users.

The move has raised concerns that Samsung may be preparing to eliminate the S Pen entirely, possibly as early as the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The company might justify this by citing battery improvements or internal optimizations. Alternatively, Samsung could pivot toward a standalone S Pen compatible with more devices, potentially bundled with specialized cases.

While the S Pen remains a powerful tool, its gradual simplification hints at an uncertain future.
