iPhone Will Soon Let You Set WhatsApp as Default for Calls & Messages

Apple is gearing up to offer iPhone users more flexibility by allowing them to set WhatsApp as their default calling and messaging app. This move builds on the groundwork laid by iOS 18.2, which introduced the ability to set third party apps as default for calls and messages, moving away from Apple’s stock Phone and Messages apps.

According to WABetaInfo, users on the WhatsApp beta version 25.8.10.74 can now enable this feature. Once enabled, any time an iPhone user taps a number in another app, it will automatically launch WhatsApp to make the call or send a message, bypassing Apple’s default apps. This feature aims to enhance convenience for the millions who prefer WhatsApp as their primary communication platform.

Currently, the feature is limited to select beta testers, and there’s no official timeline for a public rollout. If widely adopted, this change could significantly shift how iPhone users manage communication apps, breaking Apple’s long standing walled garden approach.
