iOS 26: Release Timeline, New Features, and Supported Devices Revealed

Apple made waves at WWDC 2025 by unveiling iOS 26, arguably its boldest iPhone update in years. The headline change is the new Liquid Glass design language a translucent, fluid UI overhaul that modernises nearly every corner of the system interface. Alongside the visual refresh, Apple is doubling down on AI-powered features and system intelligence.

Among the biggest additions are on-device Smart Summaries, an enhanced Live Translation tool, and upgraded Call & Message Screening. Genmoji, Apple’s AI-driven emoji generator, also gets expanded customisation options. CarPlay evolves too, with Live Activities integration and the debut of CarPlay Ultra for more immersive in-car displays. Native apps like Apple Music, Maps, Safari, and Pay see incremental upgrades, while a new Games app will serve as a dedicated hub for your gaming content.

As for when you can get your hands on iOS 26, the rollout follows Apple’s usual playbook. The developer beta is already out, while the public beta is expected by July. A full public release is slated for September, shortly after the iPhone 17 series launch. You can opt into the public beta by heading to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates, then selecting Public Beta.

But not every iPhone will make the cut. Apple confirmed that iOS 26 will be available for the iPhone 12 series and newer, plus the 2nd-gen iPhone SE and up. Notably, the aging iPhone 11 series and older devices will likely be left out, ending their major iOS update cycle.

If you plan to install iOS 26, you’ll need at least 8GB of free space and 50% battery with Wi-Fi. Early reports suggest the new UI and features are surprisingly lightweight and efficient a nice bonus for users holding onto older compatible iPhones.
