Meta is finally working on a native Instagram app for iPads. According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the long-awaited iPad version is now in advanced development and internal testing. This follows Meta’s recent announcement of WhatsApp for iPad, responding to years of user demand for optimized tablet apps.

Until now, iPad users had to rely on a stretched-out iPhone version of Instagram, which lacked proper layout support and image scaling for larger screens. Past concerns over square post layouts and low-res content visibility kept Meta from building an iPad-specific app but the company is reportedly now confident in overcoming those challenges.

The decision to prioritize an iPad app may be driven by rising competition from TikTok, which already offers an iPad-optimized experience, as well as increasing demand for widescreen, high-resolution content consumption. Expected features include Split View, landscape orientation, and multitasking support. While no official release date is confirmed, a public launch is likely later this year.
