Google is officially phasing out Google Assistant on Android devices capable of running Gemini. By the end of 2025, users will no longer have a choice Gemini will fully replace Assistant on supported phones, tablets, and other devices. Those with older hardware, such as Android 9 phones or devices with less than 2GB RAM, will be allowed to keep Assistant.

As part of this transition, Google is rapidly expanding Gemini’s presence. The AI assistant will soon be integrated into wearables, headphones, tablets, and even vehicles through Android Auto. This marks a major shift in Google’s AI strategy, signaling its commitment to Gemini as the next-generation digital assistant.

While some users may welcome the change, others who prefer the familiarity of Google Assistant may not be thrilled about the mandatory switch. More details on the transition process and Gemini’s expanded features are expected later this year.
