Google Photos to Let You Pick Focus in Motion Tracking Videos

Google Photos is about to give users more control over their video edits. The app’s AI-powered Track preset, which currently auto-identifies and follows the “main” subject in a video, is getting a much-requested upgrade: the ability to manually choose the subject. This change addresses a common complaint when multiple people are in a video, the AI doesn’t always follow the one you want.

In the latest Google Photos update (version 7.24.0.744869131), a new “Track different subject” button has been spotted. Once the app processes your video, you’ll be able to draw a circle around a specific subject to redirect the motion-tracking effect. The app will then reprocess the clip and keep the selected subject centered throughout the video.

This adds a layer of customization to what was previously a hit-or-miss feature, especially for group or action shots. With this, Google continues refining its suite of AI-powered tools to give creators smarter, faster, and more intuitive editing options.
