Google Messages is finally rolling out its sensitive content warning system, designed to detect and blur incoming nude images before users view them. After months of anticipation and a limited rollout, the feature has started appearing for beta users. Found under Protection & Safety > Manage sensitive content warnings, it enables users to preview, block, or learn more before choosing to view the blurred image.

The feature is opt-in for adults but enabled by default for teens and supervised users. Supervised accounts cannot disable it, though parents can manage settings via Google Family Link. Unsupervised teens aged 13–17 can manually turn it off. In addition, users are warned when trying to send or forward potentially explicit content, adding a layer of accountability.

Importantly, all image detection is handled entirely on-device using Android’s SafetyCore, ensuring that no content is sent to Google servers. The feature currently applies only to images not videos and activates only when supported apps like Google Messages invoke SafetyCore.
