Google adds ChatGPT-like AI Mode to Search

Google’s AI-powered Search Mode is no longer experimental and is officially rolling out to all U.S. users starting today. Announced at Google I/O 2025, AI Mode integrates advanced reasoning, follow-up query handling, and multimodal capabilities directly into Google Search via a new tab appearing left of the “All” tab.

AI Mode, built on Gemini 2.5, breaks down complex queries, performs multiple background searches, and generates context-rich answers. The new feature also introduces Deep Search for expert-level, fully-cited reports and Live View, letting users point their camera at objects for real-time info. Google promises personalized suggestions by connecting services like Gmail with privacy controls in place.

In coming months, AI Mode will handle tasks like booking tickets, making restaurant reservations, and generating custom charts and visualizations from real-time datasets. While currently U.S.-exclusive, Google plans to expand AI Mode internationally soon, though specific dates remain unconfirmed.
