Gemini Now Summarizes Gmail Emails Automatically on Android, iOS, and Web

Google’s Gemini is now summarizing Gmail emails automatically and by default. Previously, users had to tap “Summarize this email” for AI-generated overviews, but now summaries will appear at the top of emails when helpful like in lengthy threads or message chains with multiple replies.

The AI-powered feature condenses key points from conversations, dynamically updating summaries as new replies are added. Currently, it’s rolling out for emails written in English and is only available to Google Workspace subscribers, Google One AI Premium members, and Gemini Education customers. The complete rollout is expected within 15 days.

In addition to web access via the Gmail side panel, Gemini summary cards are now live on Android and iOS Gmail apps, offering a quick, organized way to review complex threads on mobile. Emails without automatic summaries will still allow users to manually trigger one through the familiar “Summarize this email” chip. Google has reaffirmed its privacy commitments with this update.
