Apple is making significant moves into the smart home market with a new line of AI-powered products, including a wall-mounted smart display, a robotic tabletop device, and more. According to a Bloomberg report, the wall-mounted device, expected to launch in March 2025, will serve as a central hub for controlling HomeKit products, aiming to rival Amazon and Google’s smart home offerings
Code-named J490, the display will feature a six-inch touchscreen, camera, rechargeable battery, and built-in speakers. It will run on a new operating system combining elements of watchOS and iPhone’s StandBy mode, with access to the Apple App Store, FaceTime, and essential apps like Notes and Calendar. Tim Cook sees the new product as key to Apple’s strategy in dominating the smart home space.
