Apple Prepares Major Redesign for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS

Apple is gearing up for one of the biggest software overhauls in its history with iOS 19, iPadOS 19 (codenamed “Luck”), and macOS 16 (codenamed “Cheer”). Set to be unveiled at WWDC in June, these updates aim to create a more unified experience across iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Inspired by Apple Vision Pro’s visionOS, the redesign will impact icons, menus, apps, windows, and the system UI.

iOS 19 will mark the most significant visual update since iOS 7, while macOS 16 is expected to be the most dramatic Mac overhaul since Big Sur in 2020. The redesign is not just cosmetic—it aims to simplify navigation and usability across Apple’s ecosystem. Despite the similarities in design, Apple will continue to keep macOS, iOS, and iPadOS separate to maintain distinct experiences for each device category.

These updates come as Apple looks to reinvigorate user interest amid slowing growth and delayed AI advancements. While visionOS elements like circular icons, translucent panels, and depth effects will influence the redesign, Apple is stopping short of merging platforms. The updates will launch in Fall 2025 after their WWDC reveal.
