Apple May Pay Google $1B a Year to Power Siri with Gemini

Apple is reportedly close to striking a $1 billion-a-year deal with Google to use a custom Gemini model for Siri’s long-delayed AI overhaul, Bloomberg reports. The 1.2-trillion-parameter model would handle summarization and planning tasks while running on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute for privacy.

The partnership is meant to be temporary, with Apple developing its own trillion-parameter model for future updates. But for now, Siri’s next big leap might quietly depend on its biggest rival.

Even in the AI race, it seems Apple’s “Think Different” era is on pause.
