Apple May Let iPhone Users Replace Siri With Gemini or ChatGPT — Thanks to the EU

In a significant policy shift, Apple may soon allow third-party digital assistants like Gemini and ChatGPT to replace Siri as the default option on iPhones but only in regions where regulations demand it. This move comes in response to new European Union (EU) regulations aimed at curbing platform monopolies and giving users more choice within Apple’s typically closed ecosystem.

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is prepping to open up not just iOS, but also iPadOS and macOS, enabling users to pick alternatives to Siri for the first time. While this marks a major win for iPhone users in the EU, it’s expected that Apple will restrict this feature to legally mandated regions, leaving US and other markets stuck with Siri for now.

Android users have long enjoyed this freedom, easily switching between voice assistants in system settings. Now, iPhone owners in the EU will finally experience the same flexibility and perhaps push Apple to up Siri’s game.
