Google has officially confirmed that Android 16 stable will start rolling out next month, aligning with early reports from November predicting a June 3 launch. However, users hoping for a fresh interface with Material 3 Expressive will need to wait, as it won’t be part of the initial release.

While Pixel devices will be the first to receive the Android 16 update, other OEMs like Samsung and OnePlus are expected to lag, as they’ll need time to integrate their custom skins and features. Interestingly, Samsung has only recently started deploying Android 15 to its devices.

This marks an earlier-than-usual release for Android, as Google appears to be reshuffling its product timelines. The strategy seems aimed at ensuring fall smartphone launches can debut with the latest Android version pre-installed and giving Pixel devices an early advantage ahead of the holiday season.
Expect the Android 16 QPR1 beta to bring Material 3 Expressive sometime next month.
