Android 16 Beta: Features, Timeline, and Supported Devices

Google has rolled out the first public beta of Android 16, bringing exciting features to eligible Pixel devices (Pixel 6 and later). The stable version is expected to launch in Q2 2025, with several beta updates focusing on platform stability and new APIs.

Key features of Android 16 include adaptive apps that scale seamlessly across screen sizes, orientations, and foldable devices. Apps targeting API level 36 must support resizable windows on screens 600dp wide or larger. Live Updates, akin to Apple’s Live Activities, offer dynamic notifications for navigation, ride-hailing, and more.

The beta also introduces Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec for 8K video recording at 2Gbps, native night mode scene detection, richer haptics via new APIs, and improved vertical text rendering.
