Apple is rumored to be working on the next-generation AirTag, set for release in mid-2025. While design changes are unlikely, the AirTag 2 may feature tweaks to improve accessibility and safety, addressing concerns about the ease of opening the device. It’s expected to continue using a CR2032 battery, with no transition to a built-in rechargeable one. A key upgrade is the inclusion of a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which will provide a much longer tracking range—three times that of the original version. Additionally, Apple could enhance its anti-stalking features by making the speaker harder to remove. The AirTag 2 will also integrate with Apple’s Vision Pro headset, offering new possibilities for spatial computing, though specifics are yet to be revealed. With these upgrades, the AirTag 2 promises to enhance Apple’s ecosystem of connected devices.
