GTA VI May Let Artists Upload Music Directly Into the Game

Grand Theft Auto VI might be about to change how open-world games handle music forever. In a surprise revelation, Grammy-winning producer Jermaine Dupri hinted that artists will be able to upload their music directly to the game. While he didn’t specifically name GTA VI, let’s be honest — there’s no way Rockstar’s adding this feature to GTA V over a decade later.

Speaking on the New Rory and Mal podcast, Dupri suggested that rap superstar Drake would even get his own in-game radio station, potentially featuring exclusive tracks you can’t stream anywhere else. If true, this would turn GTA VI into something resembling a hybrid between an open-world crime epic and a live music platform like Spotify.

Of course, it’s all still speculative at this point. Rockstar Games hasn’t confirmed any of these details, and as always with pre-launch rumors, it’s wise to temper expectations. That said, music has always been core to the GTA experience. From Vice City’s new wave and glam metal to San Andreas’ hip-hop-heavy playlists, the series’ soundtracks often feel like characters of their own.

Personally, I hope Rockstar extends this rumored feature to a broader range of genres and independent artists. Imagine cruising through a neon-lit Vice City with fresh rock, synthwave, or metal tracks uploaded by underground bands or your favorite indie acts. That kind of customization would be a killer addition and a nostalgia trip for those of us who still remember hearing Iron Maiden’s “2 Minutes to Midnight” on the original Vice City airwaves.

Grand Theft Auto VI is officially slated to launch May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Series S. And if these music integration rumors pan out, it might end up redefining what a game soundtrack can be in a connected world.
