Google has officially confirmed that its Gemini AI assistant is coming to Google Chrome later this year. The integration, teased ahead of Google I/O 2025, will introduce a floating Gemini icon directly in the browser for instant AI prompts, answers, and support. Dubbed “GLIC” (Gemini Live in Chrome), the feature aims to make Gemini a seamless, always-available assistant for Chrome users.

The company has long been embedding AI across its products, and this move tightens its AI grip on the world’s most-used browser. Early reports suggest users will be able to toggle GLIC on via Chrome settings, adding a Gemini icon beside their window control buttons. Clicking it will summon a floating AI window with optional system tray integration for fast access.

This could position Gemini as a direct desktop rival to Microsoft’s Copilot, offering real-time AI assistance without leaving your browser. Expect more official details when Google I/O 2025 kicks off on May 20.
