Google Confirms Pixel 7a Battery Issue

Google has officially acknowledged a battery swelling issue affecting some Pixel 7a units. Users have reported symptoms like back cover bulging, thicker device bodies, and rapid battery drain. The issue can also cause charging failures, posing safety risks for affected users. In response, Google has rolled out a dedicated support page and an extended repair program.

Owners of Pixel 7a devices may be eligible for a free one-time battery replacement if their phone isn’t damaged by external factors like water or sharp objects. Repairs are available via walk-in service centers in regions such as the US, India, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, and Singapore. In the US and India, mail-in repair options are also available.

For countries lacking repair facilities, Google is offering financial compensation. Out-of-warranty users can claim $200 cash or $300 off a new Pixel phone, while in-warranty users may receive $456. Users should note that opting for battery replacement won’t extend the existing device warranty period.
