Google Play Store Rolls Out Swipe Gesture to Prevent Accidental Purchases

Google is introducing a handy new way to cut down on accidental purchases in the Play Store. A swipe to confirm gesture is replacing the notorious one tap buy button for purchases made via Play Store billing. This small but welcome change forces users to physically swipe on the screen to finalize a transaction, reducing the risk of unintended app or in-app purchases.

The feature was first confirmed as part of a recent Google Play Services update, and is now gradually rolling out. Telegram user @Adamzampahere spotted the new option in action, showing off how it appears in version 45.8.21-31 of the Play Store. Google previously mentioned its availability in version 45.6, though many users even with the latest update are yet to see it live.

If you don’t have the feature yet, no worries. Google appears to be deploying it in phases, so keep an eye on your Play Store updates. It’s a small tweak, but one that could save users a lot of frustration.
