Google has confirmed that the auto-restart security feature seen in the latest Google Play Services 25.14 is not yet live. While initially spotted in release notes, the feature currently lacks a user interface, meaning it can’t be used just yet. Google says it will arrive in a future update and will be opt-in only not enabled by default.
The feature, once active, will automatically restart your device if it’s been locked for 72 hours, returning it to the Before First Unlock (BFU) state, which makes data harder to access. This can provide an extra layer of protection against physical data breaches when devices go unused.
While there’s no ETA, Google seems committed to rolling it out eventually. Android users eager for more iOS-like security features will have to stay tuned a little longer.
