Hyundai Mobis has introduced a revolutionary Battery System Assembly (BSA) that can extinguish fires within five minutes of a battery cell igniting marking a new milestone in electric vehicle safety. Designed to prevent thermal runaway from spreading across cells, the system integrates hardware and smart software for real-time anomaly detection and precise suppression.

The innovation includes a built-in fire extinguisher that releases a cooling, non-toxic agent with five times the capacity of standard fire extinguishers. A Battery Management System (BMS) continuously monitors temperature, voltage, and pressure, triggering the system exactly where itβs needed. The design already meets or exceeds upcoming safety mandates from Europe, China, and India.

Hyundai Mobis has also applied for three patents, covering the fire-fighting mechanism and a specially designed battery case. In parallel, it is developing pulsating heat pipe tech using aluminum and coolant to enhance cooling during fast charging. As global EV safety regulations tighten, this self-extinguishing battery tech is positioned to become a game-changer.
