WhatsApp Beta Tests Mute Button, Pre-Camera Toggle & Emoji Reactions for Calls

WhatsApp is experimenting with fresh call features for Android users, spotted in the beta version 2.25.10.16 by WABetaInfo. The new options aim to enhance privacy, control, and user experience during both audio and video calls.

The first is a mute button for incoming voice calls — located right in the notification panel. It lets users mute their microphone before answering, which could be helpful in noisy settings or when answering discreetly.

Next up, for video calls, users will now have the ability to disable their camera before answering. This is a big win for privacy, especially when receiving calls from unknown numbers or needing a moment to prepare before going on-screen.

Lastly, emoji reactions for video calls are being introduced, allowing real-time visual feedback during conversations — similar to what’s already available in Zoom or FaceTime.

These features are currently limited to select beta testers but are expected to roll out to more users soon.
