Apple’s iOS 18.5 developer beta has just landed, and while it doesn’t bring massive changes, it delivers handy Mail app upgrades and subtle improvements to the Settings menu. Users can now toggle contact photos directly within the Mail app no need to dig into system settings. Additionally, a new in app switch lets you quickly enable or disable “Group by Sender”, enhancing email management on the fly.

These Mail tweaks build on iOS 18’s larger overhaul, which included on-device email categorization using machine learning. That feature known internally as BlackPearl rolled out to iPhones last year and only recently expanded to iPad and Mac with iPadOS 18.4 and macOS Sequoia 15.4.

Also included in the beta is a refined AppleCare & Warranty section in Settings, featuring a new header and direct link to Apple’s support site. While iOS 18.5 won’t drop any major Apple Intelligence features (those are now slated for iOS 19), these usability enhancements make everyday interactions smoother.
