Amazon’s Alexa Plus Brings AI Upgrades: But You Might Have to Pay

Amazon is revamping its Alexa smart assistant with the launch of Alexa Plus, an AI-powered upgrade that offers advanced automation, memory, and proactive assistance. Alexa Plus can now book reservations, order groceries, analyze documents, and create quizzes. It also features smarter media controls and can interact more naturally without repeated wake words.

A standout feature is its “agentic capabilities”, allowing Alexa to take action on its own, such as scheduling repairs or notifying users when concert tickets go on sale. Powered by Amazon’s Nova AI and third-party models, Alexa Plus also delivers news and real-time updates from sources like Reuters and The Washington Post. However, it comes at a price—$19.99/month, though Prime members get it for free.

The early access rollout starts next month in the US on Echo Show devices, with wider availability expected later. Will the AI upgrade be enough to win over users? Amazon is betting big on it.
