Apple Secures Ultra-Thin Glass Supply for First Foldable Device in 2026

Apple is set to enter the foldable device market in late 2026, securing a supply of ultra-thin glass (UTG) from China’s Lens Technology. According to a new supply-chain report, Lens Technology will handle around 70% of Apple’s UTG orders, while Corning is expected to supply the raw materials.

Apple’s design strategy involves thinning only the central hinge area of the glass to enhance durability while maintaining overall thickness. Lens Technology was chosen for its expertise in glass etching and mass production capabilities. Secondary suppliers like South Korea’s Dowoo Insys and UTI may also contribute, with Samsung Display reportedly supplying the foldable panels.
