Google Messages May Soon Let Users Start WhatsApp Video Calls

Google Messages may soon let users initiate WhatsApp video calls directly from chats. Currently, the app only supports Google Meet for video calls, but a recent teardown of Google Messages v20250131 reveals an upcoming WhatsApp integration.

WhatsApp

Users will see a WhatsApp video call option alongside the existing Google Meet call icon. If the recipient has WhatsApp installed, the call will launch via WhatsApp; otherwise, it will default to Google Meet. However, this feature is expected to be limited to one-on-one chats, with group calls still relying on Google Meet.

While the rollout timeline remains uncertain, this integration could make Google Messages more convenient for users who prefer WhatsApp over Google Meet
