Perplexity AI Debuts Android Assistant to Rival ChatGPT, Siri, and Alexa

AI startup Perplexity has launched its assistant for Android, aiming to compete with ChatGPT, Siri, and Alexa. Backed by Nvidia and Jeff Bezos, the Perplexity Assistant integrates with various apps to perform tasks like booking reservations, setting reminders, and requesting rides. Available in 15 languages on Google PlayStore, it transitions Perplexity from an answer engine to a task-oriented AI.

The assistant employs reasoning, search, and app integration to assist with simple queries and multi-app operations. It can set event reminders based on search results and even recognize objects using a device’s camera or screen.

Perplexity plans to launch on iOS pending Apple’s approval. This comes as competitors like OpenAI’s Tasks for ChatGPT, Apple’s Siri (with Apple Intelligence), and Amazon Alexa’s upcoming version, all enhance their virtual assistants.

Perplexity’s entry signals a growing AI competition to deliver smarter, task-driven virtual assistants.
