Pope Francis Gets a Bespoke Electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class Popemobile, Set for 2025 Debut

Pope Francis is set to travel in style with a new, all-electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class Popemobile, specially crafted for his use. This bespoke vehicle, designed to reflect both modern technology and the Vatican’s commitment to sustainability, will be making its debut during the 2025 Jubilee. The Popemobile features a cutting-edge quad-motor electric drivetrain, ensuring emissions-free travel during papal processions within Vatican City and public appearances.

Built on the new G 580 EQ, the vehicle has been extensively modified for the Pope’s comfort and visibility. The interior includes a swiveling, height-adjustable single seat, providing flexibility for addressing crowds. The exterior features an open-air design, with a removable hardtop for weather protection, and a classic pearl white finish. This electric Popemobile continues Mercedes-Benz’s longstanding relationship with the Vatican, dating back to 1930.
